Executive Team


David McDonald


David has over 25 years of senior engineering, management and operational roles in a range of businesses in the communication and information technology area. Large scale systems engineering for demanding applications in trading, sensing and core optical networks, are some of the areas of focus in previous appointments, as well as a broad range of general management positions including General Manager, Vice President of Product Development, and VP of Engineering. David is the founding CEO of danalto.

Along side his sailing and soccer activities, David is interested in webscale identity management, the ebb and flow of centralised and decentralised computing, automation and future economics.

Tom Farrell


A technical expert in a broad range of ICT technologies (optical, wireless, networking and system engineering) with over 20 years experience, Tom develops and delivers customer centric solutions from inception through to deployment. As a proven innovator with more than 70 patents, and company founder (Intune Networks), Tom is an experienced company IP strategist and manager.

Albert Baker


Albert has a decade of experience working for Tier 1 telecom operators in Ireland and the Netherlands in the design and optimisation roles within large Core and Radio teams for 3/4G and scaled M2M networks. He has been deeply involved in IoT device and service innovations since 2015 leading to the co-founding of danalto in 2017. Along with his interest in Music and Creative Media, Albert has a keen interest in geo-location without GPS.

Albert holds a B.A and M.Phil degrees from Trinity College Dublin.


Finbarr Coghlan


Finbarr is a technology analyst, business strategist, and telecommunications veteran. After graduating from University College Dublin with a bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering, Finbarr gained experience as a software engineer and systems architect in the telecoms industry, spending time at both Motorola and Nokia. In 2007, Finbarr joined Accuris Networks Ltd., a connectivity solutions company focused on providing seamless connectivity between networks to improve the mobile customer experience. At Accuris, Finbarr served as VP of Product Management for over a decade before assuming the role of Chief Technology Officer in 2017.

Brendan Cremen


Brendan is an advisor to the University Bridge Fund managed by Atlantic Bridge. He has 25 years engineering and business management experience in the ICT industry. Brendan worked at Lattice Semiconductor in the US from start-up through to IPO and later joined the launch team for Xilinx Ireland, leading its expansion as an international R&D hub. He spent 10 years in the university sector, directing the formation of spin-out companies and licensing of university IP at UCC and UCD. Brendan drove the establishment of the University Bridge Fund, which raised €60M for investment in Irish university spin-outs.

Ciaran Connell


Ciaran is an independent Director and is the former co-Founder and CEO of Decawave, and General Manger of the UWBU (Ultra Wideband Business Unit) within Qorvo based in Dublin, Ireland. Having built Decawave from the ground up beginning in 2007, Ciaran successfully sold it to Qorvo in 2020. During his tenure, he raised in excess of $65M, and Decawave were recognized as visionaries, being the pioneers of IR UWB (Impulse Radio Ultra Wideband). 

Prior to Decawave, Ciaran worked for Motorola / Freescale in Texas and Toulouse, France for 23 years. He gained his undergraduate degree in Electronic Engineering from University College Dublin, Ireland and his MBA from University of Texas at Austin.

Gerry O'Grady


Gerry is a qualified electronics engineer from University College Dublin, who has held various technical design and management roles in Irish tech SMEs. He is also the former Company Secretary of Decawave Ltd., where he managed the in-house legal function with close links to the company’s external counsel & external financial management team. 

Gerry has a professional diploma in corporate governance from the UCD Smurfit School of Business, certificates from the Law Society of Ireland in company secretarial law and practice and commercial contracts. He is also a graduate of the Marketing Institute of Ireland.
